davide groppi

In the late 1980s, inventor and artisan Davide Groppi decided to simply use his name as his enterprise’s moniker to match his simple beginnings. He produced his first lamps in a small laboratory within the historical center of Piacenza, Italy.  The brand operates “Spazio Esperienze,” immersive showrooms that are open to everyone, across Italy in Piacenza, Milan, Bologna, Verona, and Parma, in addition to spaces in Majora, Spain; Porto, Portugal; Seoul, South Korea; and New York City.

Groppi views these “Spazio Esperienze” as spaces in which light finds its purposeful context and perfect position within a world devoted to illuminations that live, vibrate, and reciprocate to their environment and furnishing complements. Clients can purchase Davide Groppi’s extraordinary lighting solutions at any “Spazio Esperienze,” as well as in the most exceptional interior design stores worldwide.

The designer’s freedom of artistic independence and creative management allowed his brand to develop over the course of years into what it is today: its own source of original and unique lumination pieces that are distributed globally. He has always worked closely with a faithful and dedicated group of collaborators in an environment where he shares all ideas openly.

world-renowned name with extensive accolades

With the support, input, and efforts of these entrusted team members, Groppi develops a variety of products, projects, and shows for companies that specialize in design. His international portfolio of creations is utilized within residences, stores, museums, and restaurants. Davide Groppi’s design brand and studio have a particular popularity within the hospitality industry, with its fixtures serving as lighting solutions for numerous famous chefs—among the likes of Massimo Bottura, Carlo Cracco, and Moreno Cedroni—inside their venues.

Groppi was welcomed into the Italian Design Brands S.p.A. group in 2018 with the purpose of further reinforcing its already significant presence in international markets. He has also been a member of the Altagamma Foundation since 2019, which is considered the premier accelerator of “Made in Italy” products.

Groppi has also been recognized for his work’s excellence and granted various accolades. His lamps won three awards from the ADI Compasso d’Oro Awards, known as one of the most prestigious and oldest recognitions for design in the world. His luminaries can be found in the Quirinal Palace in Rome and the Italian Embassy to the Holy See.

groppi’s unique philosophy of creativity

Groppi’s beliefs on design are that projects emerge from one’s heart and mind, intuitions that appear from an individual’s particular way of being and their manner of thinking. It is from this inherent nature that creations emerge through the present desire to give life to something imbued with significance or necessity. He believes the fundamental elements of his work, and perhaps design in general, to be simplicity and lightness, emotion, invention, and amazement. Groppi finds inspiration within fine art, ready-made objects, magic, the inclination to make something using his hands, and the sheer urge to play and delight in the medium of light. To Groppi, light represents gestures, dreams, and actions. Through lighting, Groppi tells a story.
